Mace's Awakening

Mace awoke and sat up in his bed. He started his day off as usual, showering and dressing then having a bit of breakfast. The Jedi used the force to call his light saber to him as he went out the door. He stopped. There had been a delay before it came to him. At that moment he realized his powers were beginning to leave him. He had wasted days doing paper work and handling tasks instead of training. Windu sheathed his light saber and went into the town. As the morning crept by he traveled further and further out into the city. Eventually he found himself in the slums and barrens that make up the outer city. As he was going past a wide alley his attention was taken by a dim light. Mace entered the alley, heading for the light. It was small and growing dimmer every second, but was still easy to see in the darkness. At last he came upon it, after nearly tripping on some debris covering the unseen ground. Mace drew his light saber and turned it on. The darkness around him vanished and was replaced by a purple glow. The light turned out to be the head of a droid of some sort, and the debris around him were droid parts. After slashing the wall to make a make-shift holder for his light saber, he set to work.

Three hours later, which made the time near noon, he stood and surveyed the results of his work. Three complete droids were now ready to boot up. One was a generic humanoid one, another was humanoid as well, but taller and broader. And the third looked like a R1-D1, but an unknown older version. Mace turned the droids on. The humanoid’s ones eyes brightened and a metallic click echoed as it blinked into life. The droid stood and looked around, then its eyes focused in on Mace and its arm shot out. The Jedi made to block, as it seemed as if the droid were about to attack. To his surprise, the droid grabbed his hand and shook it. After introductions, the droid explained that he and his two companions were built long ago. Life was well for them, and they helped train many young padawans over the years. But eventually the Jedi tired of them, and soon after that they were labeled ‘obsolete’ and sent away. They had drifted pointlessly through the town, becoming rusted and broken. People kept sending them away until they reached these wastelands, at which point they finally collapsed in this alley.

“And what are you doing here Mace?” Asked the humanoid droid, which name turned out to be ‘Archie’. Windu explained that he had been looking for a good place to train, which had brought him here after seeing the light while exploring. A1-Q3 made a series of beeps, Archie looked at the droid and nodded. “An excellent idea! Mace, please allow us to help you train.” He agreed, and the four traveled out of the alley. The street was barren and wide, and most of the buildings around were gone or rubble. It provided more than enough room to fight. Mace Windu crouched in his fighting stance, both hands gripped firmly on his light saber. The two humanoid droids were standing on either side of him. Archie reached into a panel on his four arm and took out an old-fashioned white light saber. After tweaking some wires inside it and removing some dust, the droid turned it on. The two droids both charged at him. Mace quickly threw his hand out and force-pushed the bulky droid into a crumbling buiding, then spun on his heel to meet Archie’s attack. The light sabers clashed, and Mace was sent skidding backwards. Tch, I could’ve repelled that attack easily before. I must regain my inner focus. he thought as he moved his light saber in front of him and closed his eyes.

The droid dashed at him, with his saber held at his side ready for a slash. At the last second Windu’s eyes shot open and he flipped over the droid, as he landed he spun and slashed the back of the droid. It staggered forward, he was about to strike again when an immense pain erupted in his side. He was thrown into a wall and slid down it onto the ground. The massive droid was attacking again. Mace stood and charged at the droid. He ducked through a punch, then pulled to the left to avoid a high kick. As he weaved back to the right to avoid a punch he raised his light saber. He slashed through the monstrous droid’s thick hull and sent it to the ground with sparks coming from the gash in its chest. It picked itself up and went for a blow to the stomach when Windu sensed something behind him.

He jumped to the side just in time to avoid a barrage of laser attacks. The Jedi barely had time to raise his weapon again before he was rapidly moving his light saber to deflect the beams. A1-Q3 was slowly wheeling forward, relentlessly attacking. Mace Windu side-stepped to avoid three beams, giving him the time to aim. With a precise slash he sent one of the beams back at A1-Q3, piercing his left wheel and stopping it in its tracks. Suddenly there was a metallic elbow rushing at his face. He managed to avoid the full of the blow, but was still nicked and sent spiraling through the air. He used the force to stop himself and seconds later narrowly dodged three more attacks. The Jedi swerved to the right, avoiding a light saber’s slash from behind. The battle raged on, Mace knew he was nearing his limit. He side-flipped through the air to avoid a slash then landed, purposely leaving an opening. The droid quickly went for it, and Windu side-stepped to avoid it. The droid slashed into the stomach of the massive one, which fell to the ground. As he watched his comrade fall, the Jedi was focusing his Force powers. Thrusting both his hands forward, he sent the droid hurdling through the air and smashing into a building, which crumbled on top of it.

Mace quickly spun and gripped his light saber tightly as a barrage of laser blasts collided with him, sending him flying. He crashed and skidded on the ground, but quickly recovered and jumped up. He deflected A1-Q3’s attacks, and as the droid paused for a moment to charge another round of blasts, Windu put one hand in front of him and his light saber arm stretched out behind him. As the blasts flew towards him he gracefully swung his arm in a perfect half circle, letting go of his weapon’s hilt. It soared through the air, the attacks bouncing off it. Then it pierced A1-Q3 directly in its weapon, it teetered then fell on the side of its ruined wheel. He retrieved his light saber and sheathed it after rewiring A1-Q3’s wheel and standing it up. It gave a beep of thanks and the two went to where Archie sat attaching some new plating over the large droid’s attacked areas. After that Mace Windu spent a few hours talking with Archie and his two less-talkative companions, and thanking them for the fight. He knew he had reawakened himself, and he felt more…open to the word around him. As he was beginning to set off he recalled a building he passed near the beginning of his trek through the town, and returned to the robots…

…The next morning he went through his usual routine, showering and dressing then having a bit of breakfast. He walked into town after sheathing his light saber in its rightful place on his waist. The first thing on his agenda was to visit the Droid Museum and see how Archie and his friends were doing.
